These are challenging times for our global economy but the African-American community is especially vulnerable.
In this current environment and time of momentous change, what women can achieve when imagination is joined to a common purpose is enormous.
Our past history has uncovered the hidden greatness that lies within us. We, as women of color, have had to display courage in an effort to maintain our existence and survival. Black women have through faith, wisdom and service shown a true perseverance.
We, as strong women in a progressive organization should always be at the forefront of enhancing the quality of life in our community. Our nation's first elected African-American President Barack Obama has called everyone to partake in an action of volunteerism. In our community, NCBW has answered this call and will continue to answer with resonance. It gives me great pride to be a part of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Bergen/Passaic Chapter, sponsoring programs for the benefit of good health, financial literacy, an awareness of black culture and (may we say with audacity) future Presidents. Few can achieve and succeed without rendering service to others. Making the wants and needs of others a priority, is the hallmark of true service. We are one body with many branches; we must reach up, reach out and reach down. We are women making a difference in our community and throughout this nation.
