Our NCBW 100 Bergen/Passaic Health Committee feels that Health is more than the absence of illness, it is a state of well being. We embrace a definition of health in its broadest form. Knowledge is the key. We educate and advocate for issues related to maintaining wellness, illness prevention, the recognition of health disparities, and the awareness of health related careers. The overall wellness of the African-American Woman and her family is our concern.
Activities
& Accomplishments:
December 2007 - In the midst of the 2007 winter holiday excitement, the Health Committee hosted a much needed day of relaxation and pampering at Hackensack University's Medical Center's, Beyond Spa.
On Sunday, December 9th, Beyond Spa, one of the country's best medical spas welcomed the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Bergen/Passaic Chapter and their special guests. With extra staff on hand, delicious fruit platters, pastries, tea, mimosas and true spa comfort, 21 of our members and guests enjoyed a day to themselves.
Some of the indulgences of the day were the hot stone massage therapy, Beyond Signature manicures & pedicures, aromatherapy massages and lots of reflexology massages to rejuvenate our tired feet.
It seems as though everyone had a really nice time and cannot wait to do it again and from the looks of today's weather....early springtime would be the perfect time for another day of 'me time'!
June 2007 - Annual George Washington Bridge Challenge to benefit the American Cancer Society. Members walked and raised more than $7,000 for the American Cancer Society.
February 2007 - The Health committee was very involved with the success of our Trailblazer's Luncheon. In addition to honoring trailblazing women in our community, we provided a strong health message. Partnering with the American Heart Association we informed our audience about the prevalence of stroke, a leading killer in the African-American Community, and how to recognize the signs of a stroke, and importantly what we as individuals and as a community can do to prevent it. We, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Bergen/Passaic Chapter, are proud to be Stroke Ambassadors for the American Heart Association
November 2006 - NCBW partnered with The Links, Inc. of Bergen County to present "The Threads That Bind", a program educating the community about HIV/AIDS.
October 2006 - Participated in the Girl Scouts Breast cancer fair and run/walk.
June 2006 - Annual George Washington Bridge Challenge to benefit the American Cancer Society. Members walked and raised more than $2,000 for the American Cancer Society.
2006 - American Heart Association Power to End Stroke Campaign. Members of the Health Committee attended an educational workshop.
